Wooly mammoth species have been extinct since 1700 B.C. dating as far back as 10000 B.C. for some species. In 2008, two professors reportedly mapped much of the wooly mammoth's DNA. In 2011 a team of scientists reportedly were trying to clone a wooly mammoth and hope to have a baby within 6 years.
