I am a Chicago resident originally from northwestern Connecticut. I enjoy working in abstract with mixed media and have many paintings with sculptural elements.
Navigation and geographic exploration are figured prominently in my multi-media works. I find a lot of inspiration cycling through the streets of Chicago and other travels, picking up maps and street signs on my wanderings that I then incorporate with other found and upcycled objects into my paintings and sculptures. Of all cartographic elements, I am most fascinated with the “you are here” location dot. My series of the same name, featuring images of extinct species and logarithmic tables, begs viewers to ponder their place in time and space.
With my recent paintings, I explore the tension between orientation, disorientation, and relationships. Using square canvases that feature symmetrical compositions of intersecting circles and paths that advance and recede from the canvas in an almost dizzying fashion, showing that there are consequences to our physical and psychological footprints.
